Former Twitter, World Economic Forum executive Kirstine Stewart joins Pex as Chief Revenue Officer
Pex announced the addition of Kirstine Stewart as the company’s first Chief Revenue Officer. Stewart will bring her experience managing content platforms and innovative media partnerships to Pex, leading the company toward its mission of supporting the creator economy with fair and transparent licensing through building key partnerships across industry stakeholders.
Stewart joins Pex from the World Economic Forum, where she served as a Member of the Executive Committee as well as Head of the Shaping the Future of Media, Entertainment and Sport platform, which focuses on creating a new media system between content creators, distributors, and consumers. Prior to that, she served as the founding head of Twitter’s Canada headquarters, and later, Twitter’s VP of Media in North America. Stewart was also previously the Head of English Language Programming for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, achieving record-breaking ratings for the network.
“Kirstine’s expertise in the evolving media and content landscape will be invaluable to Pex as we work to address the changing needs and obligations of user-generated content platforms and rightsholders and forge a more free and fair internet,” said Rasty Turek, Chief Executive Officer at Pex. “She is an innovative leader with a passion for tackling new challenges, and we are thrilled to have her join our leadership.”
Throughout her career, Stewart has been continuously recognized for her outstanding leadership in business. She was named to Canadian Business Magazine’s “Power 50” and as one of Toronto Life Magazine’s “Most Influential.” Her expertise has earned her positions on high-level project steering committees, including for the 2016 NBA All-Star Game, as well as several boards, including joining the board of Ingenium this month, which is Canada’s national museums of aviation and space, science and technology, and agriculture and food. She is also on the board of The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health in Toronto and a founding board member of the Coalition of Innovation Leaders Against Racism. Her best-selling book, Our Turn, explores how women are uniquely suited to lead in an era of digital transformation and changing expectations about work.
“The Internet continues to find new ways to disrupt all models of media and entertainment, but it has opened far more doors than it has closed,” Stewart said. “Pex has a vision that equally embraces new tech-enabled content creators, the platforms they use, and copyright holders; because I share that vision I am excited to join Rasty and his exceptional team.”
Stewart’s appointment to Pex — named to Fast Company’s Most Innovative Companies list this year — continues the expansion of their executive leadership team. Other recent hires include Diana Pfeil as the VP of Research and Development, along with Jaclyn Petrovich as VP of Marketing and Communications.
